Below are the same materials I use to teach my Behavioral Economics elective course (no calculus, no micro theory prerequisites). I teach this class as an active, student centered course in which class time focuses on discussions regarding journal articles in Behavioral Economics. I begin with a review of the standard economic model from principles of microeconomics, and then introduce utility functions and indifference curves. For each assigned reading, students complete a “Paper Summary” assignment to ensure they have completed the readings before class. The final project revolves around students using knowledge of behavioral economics to design a solution to an issue they are interested in. Students provide both a written description of the problem and solution, in addition to an oral explanation and defense of their ideas.
